The power of positive motivation
The rewards system is designed to motivate kids in a positive way. Instead of just telling them what to do, they earn points for completing chores, reaching goals, and contributing to the family. These points can be traded for rewards they actually want!
How the rewards system works
You set up:
- Chores worth points – Each chore is worth a certain number of points when completed and approved
- Rewards they can earn – Things like extra screen time, choosing dinner, pocket money, or outings
Family members complete chores, earn points, and spend them on rewards they've chosen. Simple, transparent, and incredibly motivating!
Types of rewards
Physical rewards – Pocket money, small toys, or treats
Experience rewards – Movie night, choosing dinner, a special outing
Privilege rewards – Extra screen time, staying up later, choosing a family activity
Recognition – Badges, certificates, or being celebrated on the family board
Points and earning
You decide how many points each chore is worth. A simple task might be worth 5 points, while a bigger job could be worth 20. Kids can see their points total and what they're saving for. It gives them agency and control over what they earn rewards for.
Transparency is key
Everything's transparent—kids know what chores are worth, what rewards cost, and how close they are to earning what they want. This builds trust and motivation. No surprises or confusion about why they did a chore but didn't get points.
