How points are earned
Family members earn points when they complete approved chores. The number of points depends on the chore's difficulty and what you've set as the point value. Once you approve a chore, points are credited immediately.
Viewing points and progress
Every family member can see:
- Their current point total
- How many points they earned this week/month
- What rewards they're saving for and how many more points they need
- Their points history (what they've earned over time)
Spending points on rewards
- Family members go to the Rewards section
- Browse available rewards
- Select a reward they want to "buy" with their points
- If they have enough points, tap "Redeem" or "Claim"
- The points are deducted and the reward is theirs!
Tracking progress toward rewards
Your app shows a progress bar or counter so kids can see how close they are to earning their reward. "Only 25 more points until movie night!" makes a huge difference in motivation. Some kids love seeing their progress climb.
Bonus points and bonuses
You can give bonus points for achievements like completing a streak, helping without being asked, or exceptional effort. Just tap a family member and add bonus points. It rewards good behaviour beyond just completing assigned chores.
Pro tip: Have a family chat about points. Talk through what rewards they want and roughly how many chores they need to complete. It helps them set realistic goals and understand the system better!
