Set up custom rewards

Create rewards your family actually wants

Making rewards meaningful

The best rewards are the ones your kids genuinely care about. Every family is different—what works for one kid might be boring for another. That's why custom rewards are brilliant: you create rewards based on what your family loves!

Creating a new reward

  1. Go to the Rewards section
  2. Select "Create reward" or "Add reward"
  3. Give it a name (e.g., "Extra screen time", "Choose dinner", "Movie night")
  4. Add a description (optional but helpful)
  5. Set the point cost (how many points it needs to earn)
  6. Choose if it's for one person or everyone can earn it
  7. Save the reward

Types of rewards to consider

Time-based – Extra 30 minutes of screen time, staying up 1 hour later on Friday

Activity-based – Choose what's for dinner, pick a movie for family night, extra outdoor playtime

Financial – $5 pocket money, points toward a game or toy they want

Experience-based – Day out to the beach, ice cream run, special breakfast in bed

Privilege-based – Play a video game with a parent, choose tomorrow's breakfast, skip one chore

Setting point costs wisely

Think about effort vs. reward. A 30-minute chore might be worth 10-15 points. An hour of screen time might cost 50 points. A special outing could be 100+ points. The key is making rewards achievable—kids should be able to earn something every week or two, not save for months.

Updating and managing rewards

As kids grow, their rewards might change. A 5-year-old's reward list looks different from a teenager's. You can edit, remove, or add new rewards anytime. Keep things fresh and engaging!

Pro tip: Ask your kids what rewards they'd like. Getting their input makes them more invested in earning points. They're more likely to complete chores if they're saving for something they genuinely want!
