Protecting your peace
Notifications are great during the day, but you might not want them buzzing while you're sleeping, having family dinner, or trying to have a quiet morning. Quiet hours let you silence notifications during specific times without turning everything off permanently.
Setting up quiet hours
- Go to your notification settings
- Look for "Quiet hours" or "Do Not Disturb"
- Tap to enable it
- Set your start time (e.g., 9:00 PM)
- Set your end time (e.g., 7:00 AM)
- Save your settings
What happens during quiet hours
During your quiet hours, push notifications won't ping or buzz. Notifications will still be there when you open the app—they're not lost or deleted, just silenced. This is perfect for:
- Sleep time (usually 10pm-7am)
- Family meal times
- Work hours when you don't want distractions
- Special family time or outings
Exceptions to quiet hours
You might want urgent notifications (like a family emergency) to come through even during quiet hours. Some apps let you set "priority" notifications that bypass quiet hours. Check your settings to see if you can mark specific people or event types as high-priority.
Multiple quiet hour schedules
Some families set different quiet hour schedules for weekdays vs weekends, or different times for different family members. Parents might have quiet hours 10pm-6am, while kids have 8pm-8am on school nights. Get creative with what works for your family!
Pro tip: If you're away on holiday or having a tech-free weekend, you can temporarily turn off quiet hours or disable notifications entirely. Just remember to turn them back on when you return to normal life!
